Life is full of ups and downs. Great moments and horrendous storms. Times of bravery and times of unexplained doubt. Our fears and doubts creep in and all we see around us is the chaos and forget that we are safe in the arms of our creator. We have not been promised a sheltered life from hurt, pain, illness and sorrow, but we can stand firm on the promise that God is with us and is in control.
Too often we allow the circumstances around us, usually circumstances that we ourselves have no control over, to distract us from keeping our eyes and our faith in the one who promises to carry us through it. The one who promises to take care of us. The one, who is there to comfort us.
This brings to mind the story in the Bible when Jesus was walking on the water to the boat the disciples were in and Paul stepped out of the boat and started walking on the water towards Jesus. He took a few steps and for a split second, took his eyes off of Jesus and focused on the storm around him. In that instant, his fear took over and he began to sink into the water allowing the storm to take control.
I wonder what a storm would look like if we kept our eyes focused on God. To experience a peace beyond understanding while there is nothing but chaos brewing around us. To have life be out of our control (was it ever in our control?) and be centered and unaffected by it.
This doesn’t mean we are to walk around oblivious to what is going on around us, but we are to instead, keep our focus and trust in the Jesus, our savior and the one who is in control. It does us no good to sit and worry about the chaos around us and allow our minds to take us into the worse case scenarios. Instead, we should approach the storms of life with a heart of prayer and confidence that God is with us. We can call out to him in prayer and walk through the storm with our eyes focused on God knowing that he sees us and he is the one in control, not the storm.
So, whatever you are going through today, my friend, I pray that you would lift your eyes to God. I pray that he would give you peace, and that you will be able to walk through the storm with your eyes fixed on the one who is ultimately in control. He promises that he will never leave you, all you have to do is call on him.
Until next time…
