She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” Genesis 16:13
Hagar was Sarai’s maidservant that she gave to Abraham in hopes that God’s promise of having a child would be fulfilled through Hagar. Hagar’s pregnancy only made Sarai jealous and caused her to mistreat Hagar. Hagar, to escape Sarai’s mistreatment, ran away, but God found her anyway.
When I read this it brought great comfort, to know that no matter what our circumstances may be, no matter how alone we may feel, or how overlooked or taken advantage of we may think we are, God sees us. Hagar knew what it felt like to be rejected and taken advantage of, but God did not forget her. Instead he found her and saw her through her circumstances.
He knows what we’re going through, yes he has the authority to deliver us from any situation, but sometimes we are called to go through it. The good news is, we don’t have to go through it alone. He is with us. He sees our tears, he knows our fears, and he feels our pain and he promises to see us through.
If you find yourself right now in circumstances that are leaving you feeling alone, rejected, mistreated, or just worn out, take courage because God sees you. He knows what you’re going through, and he’s waiting for you to call out to him.
Take courage my friend, until next time.
